Life as a Brooke: Part 2

For the last 3 weeks, I’ve been ‘busy’ with my industrial training at Brooke Dockyard,Sejingkat. It’s my 4th week now and in another 6 weeks I’ll be done with this. But I am considering an extension of 2 weeks, just to make it a 3 months training instead of a 2 ½ months. Alang-alang….

To be honest, I don’t know much about Brooke Dockyard…. In fact I initially thought they’re into shipping industry..but on my first day here, I realized that I’m in oil and gas industry. Brooke in fact fabricates sections of an oil rig and currently they’re making top side of an oil rig for Murphy Oil (Sarawak). Thus, I accidentally involved myself into oil and gas for my training…wahahaha..ketawa penjahat… I wanted to have my training with an oil and gas based company for my training ba but my applications were rejected… like I’ve said, I didn’t know Brooke is in oil and gas ba….

Here at Brooke, I’m in QA/QC department…a department where most will assume it’s more related to Civil instead of Mechanical…. However, they do need others from different field. In fact, the QC/QC manager is a mechanical engineer ba. They need mechanical people to inspect mechanical equipments ba…equipments to be used to build and equipments to be installed to the rig. In addition to that, they’re short of mechanical guys ba…thus I’m assigned to take over some jobs of a mechanical inspector.

So far.. I’ve been exposed quite a lot even though the project is still in the early stages. I’ve inspected a number of machines like air compressors, flare tip, air dryer and etc….but not a full inspection la. Initial inspection will just be inspecting the parts…later before installing them to the rig, baru run them to tests..but I don’t think I’ll be able to do that since my training is so short. The whole project will take 12-14 months ba..meaning they’ll install the machines on the rig by the 10th month like that la…

Other than inspecting received equipments… I’ve inspected welding works…a bit ironic la since my welding skills is not good and I’m inspecting welding works of a welder with years of experience… ahahahahaha…rasa best ada juak..rasa nebes ada juak… yala, skill macam ciput but have to brani sound the welders if they’re work quality is not within acceptable range… Also takut because their welding works will be sent to Johor for tests..and if they tests come out fail…the whole project will be delayed… the weld work are samples for the floors, walls and ceilings…. If fail, have to edit and redo the whole weld work and then send for test again sampai la pass….
(to be continued)
